The Blog

Post-Processing of Newborn Images | Houston Newborn Photographer

Newborn photography is a specialized niche. So I’d like to start a series of blog posts to educate parents what a professional newborn photographer does behind the scene.

Right after our newborn session is finished, I usually tell clients to allow 2-3 weeks before our next appointment for custom printing and order fulfillment. During this time, I carefully look at all the images of your session, and hand-pick the best ones for your gallery. When it comes to post-possessing, I’ve to admit that I’m a minimalist. I prefer setting everything right in my camera before hitting the shutter button. It takes years of experience and training. But this practice saves me hours during post-processing, and ensures that I get nice and crispy, high-definition images.

Here I’m showing you a SOOC (straight-out-of-camera) image (above), and the same image after editing (below).

My editing workflow reflects my style: Simple. Elegant. Authentic. I love to give a soft and refreshing feel to my images, but every edit is very subtle (as you can tell from the sample pictures here). As a perfectionist, I love polished skin. If baby accidentally scratched their skin (for example, in the corner above his right eye; above image), I will definitely photoshop it out. For newborns, their skin can be very red and their feet can be purplish sometimes, so I also spend a lot of time editing their skin tone. However, unless requested by parents, I usually keep their flaky skin as is. Because I love the authentic details of your newborns, I want you to be able to remember all these tiny details of your baby.

I hope you enjoy this sneak peek of what I do with your images behind the scene.
