Emily and Keith are the most loving parents I have ever met. I first photographed them last year when their cute little daughter, Polly Bea, just turned two years old. They bought a gigantic number 2 balloon and I had so much fun capturing her as she explored EVERYTHING in the garden. That session was surely full of energy, well, from all that chasing after a toddler! Fast-forward, when Emily announced her second pregnancy on social media, I excitedly congratulated her and told her that I was expecting too! She immediately booked a maternity + newborn collection and I had been counting down to meet her again… in August!
My ultimate goal for every session is to deliver beautiful portraits and for my clients to feel relaxed and confident. But there are always factors that are out of my control, such as, the weather. My impression for summer is either heat or rain. We were so close to rescheduling our session and despite the forecast, the weather turned out breezy and sunny on our scheduled date! Yoo-hoo!! I can even declare that it’s the most perfect weather for two pregnant women to stay outdoors for 1+ hour. LOL.
Unlike our previous session, I incorporated a lot of “quiet moments” just between Emily and Keith, as they were patiently and joyfully expecting for their baby boy. I realized firsthand that after becoming parents, we have sacrificed a lot of time spent together as a couple. I was so glad that Granny was tagging along so Emily and Keith could have tons of beautiful images captured, while their little one was running around the garden with Granny.
Did I mention that Emily looked absolutely stunning in her long, flowy dress? We tried so many different poses to capture her beauty and her beautiful bump. She looked confident and her smile was the sweetest! To be honest, many women feel insecure during pregnancy that they refused to have ANY pictures taken! But let me reassure you, you are doing an amazing job growing a little human inside of you. This is such a special moment in your life that you want to look back and treasure forever!
As mothers, we are often behind our iPhones trying to record every moment of our children’s life, and forget that we need to be present in the photos as well. It is such a bittersweet moment as we welcome our new baby, while still savoring the moment with our firstborn. We wonder how much love would be needed to pour into each and every one of our children. We wonder if we will ever have any time again to spend with our older child once baby arrives. For this reason, I love using my natural gift to capture natural moments of Emily and Polly Bea, the most genuine smile on their faces, and the most gorgeous portraits of motherhood – loving your children whether they are in your hand, or in your womb.
As the sun set and we were finishing the session, the family played “London Bridge is Falling Down” together outside the beautiful gazebo. In just two months, they will bring a brand new member to home, their story continues, and their family legacy will shine with love and memory.
